R A Sharisan

Update 4/2005:

As of 4/2005 Sherry is trained to:
solid walk/trot (needs 'refresher')
load/unload quietly in a 2 horse/step up trailer
lead with a leadrope 'wrapped' into a makeshift halter
stand quietly to have her hooves trimmed
stand quietly to be groomed
generally show good ground manners

Original 2/02: Sherry has only been ridden a few times, but she has been wonderfully calm about all training for riding so far. Typically, I spend a few days getting a horse used to my weight before I actually slide on bareback. I was on Sherry the first day. By the third day, I was doing 'swinging' mounts. Her most 'violent' reaction has been to wake up long enough to look at me like I'm insane. Putting the western saddle on her caused the same lack of concern. Turning her out in the field wearing the saddle just caused her to be embarassed to have her friends see her wearing the ugly thing - no bucking, no running in fear of the saddle that has attached itself to her back. When ridden for the first time, she preferred to stay under a tree, but since I INSISTED on movement, she gave in for a stroll around the pasture. Sherry definitely has potential to make a fine child/beginner horse. Her training will resume when the weather warms up a bit more.
